Noho Marae - Tuesday 2nd September 2008

Only five more days before we leave! The group had a noho marae at our college marae on Tuesday night (2nd September). We had Kapa Haka practice followed by a rehearsal of our Samoan and Niuean items. Students and staff had a game of Basketball in the gym before having a delicious supper provided by some of the adult supervisors.

There were three students who thought that they would stay up to see the sun rise - not a good idea! These students (who will remain nameless - for now) will be remembered for giving some members of the group a 'mini makeover' with whiteboard markers as they slept soundly. Plans for payback will be carried out in the not too distant future, so stay tuned!

We all got up at 5.30am to the sweet sound of Mrs Jane Edwards' singing. A certain musically gifted Year 12 student was very disgruntled because Mrs Edwards had stolen his 'limelight' with her wake up call - he had a plan to wake everyone up with pots and pans and a rousing rendition of 'Whaka aue, aue, aue - Hi!" Good on you Jane for nipping that one in the bud!

Everyone had to run around the courts before enjoying a cooked breakfast. As school started at 10am, students were released at eight o'clock to go home to get ready for school. Many thanks to Whaea Awhi, Whaea Tuni and all the staff and students who prepared the marae for us to use, it was a great experience for everyone involved. We have another meeting (our very last one!) on Saturday evening before we go.

Counting down....
